Remember, this earth has no proven life competitors throughout the vast universe. No other planet like ours anywhere else. We have an atmosphere of oxygen, water, and billions of living forms. Yet this third rock from the sun could easily and predictably be gone without a rescue mission to save it.
Our atmosphere currently contains 420 ppm of CO2. There is no recession, that number will simply grow and grow and grow. When we passed 350 ppm years ago, many scientists became alarmed. Now we may be past the ability to salvage our environment. The cynicism is winning as remedies that would help us reverse trends are rejected as too disruptive and too expensive. This is baloney beyond description. It is as if we are suggesting “here kids, is your future environment that we as adults have destroyed without guilt." And in some cases, people are hanging onto denials. The danger of so much exponential effect should jolt us into immediate worldwide action. We have the science and the capability to succeed with all hands-on deck. But the inconvenience holds us back. Tragically, the fat, dumb, and happy deniers can’t muster any response because they would all have to change their lifestyle.
So, the rich and the carefree in their gated communities pretend they have no obligations as stewards of the earth. They overlook their fiduciary duty to their children and grandchildren without second thoughts or remorse. Remember, this earth has no proven life competitors throughout the vast universe. No other planet like ours anywhere else. We have an atmosphere of oxygen, water, and billions of living forms. Yet this third rock from the sun could easily and predictably be gone without a rescue mission to save it. Meanwhile, the folks that could have stopped the demise of such a unique planet beg off, blaming others for any problems. They curse and condemn science and those of us with a conscience over how to protect our children and grandchildren. We need a commitment to reform our attitude by accepting all challenges of saving this blue, green, white, and brown rock.
So many of us still want to recapture the glory of the natural world, because:
Nature Weeps
We must rescue the garden
We must save our children
We must craft a future
We must flee hell
We must rebuild heaven
We must love the task
We must never tire
We must restore grace to nature
All may still be well.
We cannot stop nature from weeping unless we address this environmental crisis. Never, ever forget that in 1941, Army soldiers in the United States were being issued wooden rifles—yet within 4 years, we had 68 aircraft carriers, 100,000 aircraft, and an atomic bomb, all because science, government and the people took on a mission 24/7 to win the war.
So, the world can still possibly be saved, but not by the indifferent or the uncommitted.
We must pivot off petty politics, wars and lack of knowledge. Everyone must see why action is required.
Let us rally around a world flag, seek God’s help, and get to work!
