Republicans: Time to pivot?

A political party that will not adapt to conditions in the political arena may just not earn the vote of a majority. Many of these voters are simply looking for calm candidates that can provide an environment that allows good government to emerge.

Immigrants, LGBTQ+, abortion, F.B.I., Democrats, President Joe Biden, etc., etc.

Will the same ole, same ole, issues expand the Republican base? These strategies caused many failures in 2020, 2021, and 2022 over election results.

The Republican Party seems to have surrendered to Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis as the two leading candidates for President in 2024. It seems Ron DeSantis may be expecting ex-President Donald Trump to be indicted for federal crimes and possibly jailed. Suddenly, this possibility has alerted many others in the Republican Party to throw their hats in the ring and become candidates for President. Many are moderate and have successful past political election results.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy just completed a plan to forestall an economic collapse in the marketplace. They stepped back from the edge of a cliff. They approved a two-year extension that will honor all Federal spending and debt in that period.

This is good for America because both sides of the aisle, Republicans and Democrats, pitched in to avoid economic chaos. Please note that ex-President Donald Trump called for a default on these debt payments owed by our U.S. Treasury. Even though when he was President, the debt limit had to be extended and opened for 3 straight years. There was no opposition or threats of default during his tenure.

So now maybe it’s time to go forward with new mainstream Republican presidential candidates. Candidates that may want to expand the base of voters to keep the Republican Party as a healthy political force. One that can govern without so much chaos and turmoil. Evidence is growing daily that this chaos and turmoil will continue unabated with Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis as candidates.

A political party that will not adapt to conditions in the political arena may just not earn the vote of a majority. Many of these voters are simply looking for calm candidates that can provide an environment that allows good government to emerge.

Those loud, threatening huffers and puffers (who can scare the horses!) seem out of step at this historical moment. Let’s keep the 2-party system. It may catch the country by surprise and give the Republicans another 16 decades going back to the time of Abraham Lincoln.
